Jayathi De Silva is Miss Sri Lanka 2016 and has the right to represent the  island country in South Asia near south-east India at the Miss Universe 2016 to be held in Manila, Philippines.

She succeeds Avanti Marianne, Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2015.  Jayathi,  a part-time model who has been featured in Harper's Bazaar India, is not new in the world of pageantry.  She was the first runner-up at the Miss World Sri Lanka pageant last year.
She completed her 1st degree at the age of 19 and has a BSc in Molecular Biology and Forensic Science and an MSc in Cancer Biology.

Sri Lanka made its highest placement in  1955 through Maureen Neliya Hingert, who was crowned as the second runner up to Hillevi Rombin of Sweden. Since then  Sri Lanka has not place  to semi-finals  making them as one of the top 10 countries with longest drought in Miss Universe pageant.
