Hosting the Next Miss Universe Pageant in PH is Not a Priority of Duterte Administration

According to the 27 July, 2016 Rappler article entitled : 'Duterte on PH hosting Miss Universe: 'I wouldn't spend money on that', hosting the next Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines is not a priority of Duterte's administration.

"Dili ko [mugasto] (I would not spend money on that),"

President Duterte told some friends and  journalists that Philippine government has to consider other national issues, including the basic physical and organizational structures and facilities for the society.

The government will not spend any amount of  money but budget from sponsors or private sectors to  shoulder the cost and other issues (around $10-$12 million) is being eyed by the Department of Tourism so government might agree in hosting Miss Universe in the country.

“Sponsoring Miss Universe is our focus right now, with the plan and sources of funding in tow.” DOT Secretary WandaTeo said.

"The President agreed that sponsoring the event would be a tourism marketing coup with the Philippines' Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach at the helm,"

Pia Wurtzbach recently paid a courtesy call with her fellow Mindanaoan  President Rodrigo Duterte last July 18 in Malacanang Palace with Miss Universe Officials hoping to discuss with the newly-elected president, the possibility of holding the next Miss Universe Grand Coronation Night in the Philippines.

Hopefully the Tourism Administration will be able to raise the funds in hosting here the prestigious pageant.
It was in 1994 when the country last hosted the Miss Universe.
