Birthday : October 28, 1974 from San Juan, Puerto Rico

Dayanara Torres Delgado was born in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico on October 28th, 1974 into a poor, very loving and close-knit family. As a child, expression and creativity were important aspects of her playtime. She would enjoy acting out roles such as being a model or a queen. Torres was discovered at age 17 while walking through the Plaza de Toa Alta in her hometown. Dayanara still recalls being incredibly surprised as she never saw herself as a beauty queen.
In 1992, she represented Puerto Rico in  the Miss International pageant and became a semi-finalist. The same year, she earned second place at the Queen of the World pageant.
She was invited to represent Toa Alta in the annual Miss Puerto Rico pageant  and the right to represent Puerto Rico in the 1993 Miss Universe pageant.

Torres won the crown in the Miss Universe pageant held in Mexico City in May 1993. Torres' victory in the pageant caused some controversy because of the claim that she was still a minor. However,  Torres had turned 18 several months before the contest.
In Puerto Rico, she became a national treasure, and a parade was held in her honor.

During and after her reign as Miss Universe, she became an ambassador for UNICEF, traveling through Asia and Latin America. She organized the "Dayanara Torres Foundation" which has provided scholarships to poor students in Puerto Rico and the Philippines.
Dayanara traveled to Manila to pass on the crown to her successor (Sushmita Sen of India). She even sang a duet during the pageant in PICC with Peabo Bryson, called "A Whole New World".
During her stay in the Philippines, Dayanara became so well-loved that she was offered the opportunity to host two television shows and star in films. She became an instant superstar in the Philippines.
